10 Proven Ways to Increase Website Traffic

Many firms struggle to find new and innovative ways to increase traffic to their websites. There is a lot of misinformation on the internet about how to attract more visitors, which can lead to using the same tired tactics repeatedly without seeing positive results.

If you want to increase traffic to your website in an organized way and charge for it, here are ten methods that have proven to get results.

1. Perform Keyword Research

Always include relevant keywords in your content. Keywords should be used naturally and not be so prominent in the content that they distract from the main idea or distract the reader. It is essential to use keywords throughout your content, such as the meta description, page title, URL, headings, and a few times throughout the post.

For keyword research, you can use tools like Moz, Ahrefs, and SEMrush. These sites show which keywords competitors are using, how often keywords are searched for, how expensive the keyword is for pay-per-click ads, related keywords, and many other valuable pieces of information to determine a keyword strategy.

Hiring an SEO agency is also always an option, as they can provide valuable insight and conduct audits to identify issues that may be preventing your site from appearing in search engines.

2. Create Memorable Content

It is not enough to post content, and you need to create content that is memorable and stands out from the noise. Valuable and memorable content is one of the best ways to increase traffic to a website.

People utilize Google to find specific, complete, and accurate answers to their queries, and your content should be there to provide those answers. Sites with blog content generate 434% more pages indexed by search engines than sites without blog content. In addition, sites that publish more than 16 posts per month receive almost 3.5 times more traffic than sites that publish zero to four articles.

The bottom line is that when you curate the content, produce, write regularly, and research what your audience wants to see, your web traffic should improve.

3. Write Guest Posts

Guest posting on other websites effectively generates backlinks, increases traffic, and improves search engine results page (SERP) rankings. You should always carefully research websites in your industry to make an offer.

First, look at the website’s content and make sure it is of good quality, check the domain authority, and study the guest posting guidelines. Also, ask the publication if they will promote the post on social media and tag you.

4. Keep Active Social Media Pages

Social media is essential for attracting visitors. Here are a few ways to use it to increase traffic to your website:

  • Post content on social media platforms (blogs, ebooks, white papers, infographics, videos, etc.)
  • Engage with followers by replying to them, retweeting their content, and tagging them.
  • Use relevant hashtags
  • Update the links in your bio to promote new content
  • Change your cover photo to promote new content
  • Tag influencers who might want the content
  • Include enticing information in the content to get people to click on the link
  • Respond to other people looking for answers by linking to your content

5. Use Advertising to Increase Website Traffic

Marketing utilizing paid search, social media, and display advertising can effectively drive traffic to your website. Each option has its pros and cons – for example, users can block display ads. The average cost per click for Google advertisements on the search network is between $1 and $2 – so it’s essential to set a budget and goals before investing a lot of money.

For example, with pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, it’s essential to start with a campaign and several ad groups that include the keywords you want to target the most. Once the campaign is up and running, see how the target group performs for the different keywords. Maybe one keyword only brought impressions and no increase in website traffic, while another keyword brought clicks and conversions.

6. Send Email Newsletters

Promoting content via email newsletters is an effective way to increase traffic to a website. Below are some best practices for email marketing:

  • Include enticing content information in the subject line and body of the email.
  • Include a link or button that subscribers can click on to read more content.
  • Make sure emails are mobile-friendly. Links should be easily viewable, as 46% of all email opens are mobile devices.
  • Use personalization tactics, including the subscriber’s name.
  • Make the email visually appealing using well-designed templates.
  • Conduct A/B testing to see which versions of emails get opened and clicked on the most.

7. Influencer Outreach

Influencers in the market are eager to share content that their followers will like. Businesses can engage with influencers in several ways, including:

  • Tag the influencer in a social networks post if your text links to their content or research.
  • Ask the influencer for an interview/Q&A, and then tag or email the influencer when the content is published. They will likely share your web content with their audience.
  • Conduct a review with several influencers (e.g., “10 Experts Predict Small Business Trends for 2020”) and tag each participant when promoting social media posts.
  • Pay influencers to promote sponsored posts on their social media pages.

8. Create a Helpful Industry Tool or Content

Giving potential customers something useful is a great way to get more traffic. For example, here at our content marketing agency, we created an editorial calendar template that anyone can download for free. We intended to give marketers a tool to make creating and posting content easier.

Create different tools and content that can help others in your industry, and then offer it free on their sites. You can maximize your return and find new leads by posting gated content/tools (where the content and tools are offered in exchange for the user’s contact details).

Another way to increase traffic to the site is to promote the content/tools on relevant LinkedIn groups or forums where people interact.

9. Submit Press Releases to Influential Publications

When companies create press releases to promote themselves or their clients, they should not simply put them on a press review website and wait to see what happens. They should actively push the message and send it to influential websites and publications in their field.

When we want to announce our clients’ good news, we send it to the blogs and industry publications that their audience reads. As a result, we can collect dozens of new brand-new and increase referral traffic for the client.

10. Exchange Backlinks

With so many companies looking to increase website traffic, backlink exchanges have many opportunities. Connect to relevant sites and offer your content as an additional resource to be included in one of the site’s posts.

To add extra motivation, you can offer a mutually beneficial backlink exchange by offering to add one of their links to one of your posts.

This is precisely what we did for one of our clients, Rainbow Muffler & Brake. We created a blog post called “The Essential Road Trip Checklist” for them. We then found relevant websites through Pitchbox and contacted them to see if they could promote our post.

The WheelScene website agreed to an exchange of backlinks and social media posts, which resulted in a 23,245% increase in views! If companies find the right partner for their backlink exchange, they can achieve a great result.

Increasing Website Traffic Today

By taking these steps, companies can expect to see increased website traffic over time. While many of these tactics can provide immediate gratification, others require more time and patience. Keep pushing forward by attempting a variety of methods and analyzing the results.
